Tiree, our island home, has a resident population of around 750 people which in the holiday months swells considerably and at the time of the Tiree Musical festival is trebled. As the most westerly of the Inner Hebrides our weather is moderated by the Gulf Stream meaning that it is never too cold or too hot. We are sometimes referred to as one of the sunniest places in the UK, but we are also subject to Atlantic Gales. Snow is not a common occurence and when it does snow, generally speaking, it never lies long. We are famous for our white shell sandy beaches and there are lots of them with most of them easily accessible. Water sports are popular as is the Tiree 10k, half marathon and ultra marathon.
Transport to and from the island is either by ferry (a four hour journey) or by plane (about an hour). Both services are often at the mercy of the weather. That's island life.
Tiree is more than simply a holiday destination, it is very much a working community, crofting and fishing being important occupations with many people having several jobs.
Tiree has a great musical tradition
